Sudwerk to Release Signature Series

Posted February 2, 2010 at 11:45 PM by Stickie

As part of their 20th anniversary of brewing award winning lagers, Sudwerk is introducing the S-series of limited release beers. Their first release will be a Dunkel Weiss Bock, which is also their first high octane beer topping out at 8% abv. Sudwerk is describing it as smooth and well-balanced, with the yeast and wheat character of a Hefeweizen, the malty richness of a Dunkel, and the strength of a Bock. Since Sudwerk is one of the best damn producers of German-style beer this side of Munich, I am eagerly waiting to try this out. Release is extremely limited, so don’t dilly dally on this if you want to try it. This beer will be like hossenfeffer; hare today and gone tomorrow.

Five to brew on

By Ted Cox

It’s been a rough year for the Sac brewing scene. Popular hangouts like the Elk Grove Brewery and Sacramento Brewing Company have fallen prey to the flat economy. But don’t fret, fellow beer lovers: Plenty of local suds still flow in the River City. In honor of the first ever Beer Week, I visited area breweries to find my five favorite locally crafted beer offerings. The worst part about tasting dozens of Sacramento brews? Picking just five. (Hey, it’s a tough job, but somebody’s got to do it.). . .

Cheers to Sudwerk!: Davis brewpub celebrates its 20th anniversary

By Sharon Stello
February 8th, 2010

Owners of the Davis brewery, Sudwerk, are toasting two decades of beer-making success this year.

In celebration, Yolo County's only brewery plans to host events throughout the year, including an Anniversary Beer Festival in April and an Oktoberfest in early October.

The brewery also plans to open a tasting room in the back and begin offering more tours to the public. While tours are given upon request, they haven't been publicized much.

And, Sudwerk will release a special Signature Series in honor of its 20th anniversary and to promote the craft brew movement, encouraging the typical beer drinker to try something new and unique.

The first of three in the series — and the brewery's first high-octane ale — a Dunkel Weiss Bock, will be available in a few local stores, bars and restaurants by late February. The DWB combines the yeast and wheat character of Hefeweizen, the malty richness of a Dunkel and the strength of a Bock to produce a mahogany colored beer with “smooth, well-rounded, and full-flavored taste” and 8 percent alcohol by volume.

“We're dedicating it to the loyal customers that have helped keep it going for 20 years,” said Trent Yackzan, who is part of the brewery business operations and sales team.
